Who Wrote This
I'm Phil, the rider behind The Unbound Nomad. I've been on two wheels for over two decades - long hauls, short rips, and everything in between. The Windy 9 has given me some of my best riding days anywhere in the country. I wrote this guide because I wanted riders to have the intel I wish I'd had the first time I went out there.
A Taste of What's Inside
Route 9 - The Triple Nickel
State Route 555. My favorite road in Ohio. Relentless direction changes, tight decreasing-radius turns, and no tolerance for lazy riding. Serious riders know this road. Most of them have a story about the first time they rode it. Mine starts with full respect and ends with wanting to do it again.
Route 4 - Lazy Rivers
Follow the Hocking River south to where it meets the Ohio, then east toward Pomeroy. Working locks and dams on the river. One of the most peaceful rides in the state. Stop in Pomeroy - The Court Street Grill or Fox's Pizza Den. You've earned it.
Route 5 - Zaleski Zipper
Shortest route on the Windy 9. Possibly the most corners per mile. The Moonville Tunnel is a short gravel detour that's absolutely worth it. Pairs well with Route 3 or Route 8 for a full day.
All nine routes are covered in the free guide.
